HP Book 7 Discussion

***Spoilers***

The following post contains the name of the 7th Harry Potter book - if you would like to discover the name by yourself, travel to jkrowling.com, take the pink eraser portkey to the room of requirements and try to discover the secret to get in. If you can't discover the secret, my prior post has a link to a Leaky Cauldron article which gives directions on how to enter the room of requirements - by sure to remember to close your eyes and count to 10 slowly while heading to The Leaky Cauldron, as they have the name on their homepage, which you travel to first, before being taken (automatically) to the article with directions.

Now...let the spoilers begin...

So, I opened up JKR's page today - anticipating as I have been some Christmas surprise as I have been since she decorated - took the eraser portkey to the Room of Requirements and LO AND BEHOLD! The "Do Not Disturb" sign was GONE! I clicked around frantically, causing a few random decorations to appear, and then decided that I couldn't wait, so I went to the Leaky Cauldron for directions. Got 'em, did 'em and found myself face to face with rousing game of hangman.

Harry Potter and the --------------------------------

Well, turns out, I was smart enough to figure it out: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Fab. U. Los.

Fabulous, really. I thought it was perfect before I even began to process what it might mean. And then I began to think. I looked up "hallows" for clarity and discovered only forms of hallows, such as VERB: Hallow or ADJECTIVE: Hallowed but no nouns, except, of course, the obvious "All-Hallow's Eve" - Halloween. So I formed my own conclusion that was something like this: "A deathly process of sanctification".

I liked it. I still do. And I think that this title will probably have several layers of meanings, so I'm keeping "A deathly process of sanctification" as a layer in the meaning.

However, there is still that angsty part of me that says there's more. "The Deathly HallowS" sure implies nounS - which implies more than my version: "A deathly process...", so sure it could be processes, but my guess is that a "hallow" is some thing - just like a horcrux is a thing. And that leads me to the most popular theory out there on the forums today.

"The Deathly Hallows are the horcruxes."

How do I feel about that?

Ok...No. No no no no no no no no no!

You cannot take the "holy" out of Hallow, and there is no way in heck that JKRowling would refer to the horcruxes as "Hallows" - not gonna happen.

There are all these fabulous theories out there about Arthurian legends and Grail searches which involve relics of the faithful, which might be called "hallows" and that may be fine, but NO, Hallows are not horcruxes.

And with that, I'll say good night, y'all.

Comments:

Usually, a "hallows" is a holy _place_.

Like a church.

Or a graveyard.

Dun-dun-dun!

I immediately took the word "Hallows" to mean a noun. Not necessarily as horcruxes but maybe some place, akin to the "wetlands" or the "stockyards". I know the dictionary lists hallow as a verb or adjective, but, since I never had a problem messing with words, I assumed she didn't either. I mean, she's made up enough names for things already.

I can't get the key. I clicked on everything in succession. Then I clicked on the windchimes. there's the key. But I cannot pick it up. it just hangs there blowin in the wind.
Like the answers my friend are blowin in the wind.
