Gone Southbound

Gone camping - say nice things about me, cause I'm gone...

Random Pictures for you while I'm missing.

Do you know this horse?

In this picture, the horse is doing two things that the horse loves to do. First, the horse is eating a peppermint. Second, the horse is getting photographed (meaning: this horse is a ham - loves crowds, loves people).

Meanwhile, can you name the location of the following picture?

Is there a person behind the words, or is it double exposed?

Can you name the person in the picture?

What title would you give this photograph?

Horsies...

An update on the horses...

The original post has been moved to Run For The Roses

But for those of you who care -

I said: Roman Ruler, Flower Alley, Andromeda's Hero, Bellamy Road

The results: Flower Alley, Bellamy Road, Roman Ruler, Don't Get Mad

Flower Alley Wins the Mid Summer Derby

Zito (the trainer) decided to run Andromeda's Hero up close to the pace even though he always runs off the pace and then closes with a kick. So of course he did terrible - I don't understand why Zito chose to do that...

Grrr...

I Could Run The World

I have a couple of really great posts...I just have to write them...

So since I haven't, I do have a couple of interesting things to throw out there.

First, if you have ever been to Starbucks and ordered a "Frappacino" then you have likely seen the waste. You know what I'm talking about? They blend up the ice and the mix and flavors into this nicely creamy, icy drink. Then they pour it in your cup, but there is a WHOLE BUNCH more in the blender that they throw away!

I mean a lot.

I mean anywhere from another third to another half of your cup.

Let us pause here for a moment. I would like to assure you of my motivation. I am not complaining about the size of my drink. I get a "grande" - and that's all I want. I'm also not complaining about throwing things away. I'm not the girl who - like my coworker - must gulp down my softdrinks at resteraunts so I "get my money's worth." If I see the price of a product and want it, I buy it. I drink as much as I want and no more. I am not motivated to war with the resteraunt to take it for all it's worth so it doesn't do the same to me.

I am simply having a problem comprehending why we make so much that we don't want.

How many frappacinos sell in the US in one day? And we throw approximately 1/3 of that amount away? I don't understand the problem. Why couldn't we just decrees the amount of stuff we put in the blender?

This is question I put to my Starbuck girls. Why? Why are you doing this? Why not just make less?

The answer?

"We don't know."

They have no idea. They do this all day long and have no clue as to why they are doing this. The manager doesn't. The girls don't.

Nobody knows.

Now, at a younger age, I would have quickly concluded that this was some sinister conspiracy to take the unthinking public for a ride.

I'm older now.

And I know why.

The reason Starbucks throws away all that frappacino mix is because the "management" (who has never made a cup of coffee in their lives) decided how much mix to put in the blender and the people who make the coffee never ask questions - "just give me a paycheck." And thus we have the most common situation in the workplace today.

The people who make the decisions don't know anything and the people who do the work don't care.

I should have been a business major. I could run the world.

Oceanic Curmudgeon (Endangered)

SpookyRach had a great meme on her blog - type in your "(your name) is" on google's search engine and list the top ten hits - here are mine...

Lois is...

1) Millionaire Playboy (Woop!)
2) Gifts of Higher Consciousness
3) Land Ocean Interaction Study (LOIS)
4) Comics Curmudgeon
5) A Law Library
6) "Lois is a short but seemingly strong young woman" in an unpublished transcript of a book (I mean, unpublished in book form).
7) A National Quilting Association volunteer
8) A LOFAR outrigger in Scandinavia (don't know what LOFAR is, but an outrigger sounds pretty cool!)
9) Lois Lane (of course)
10) An online community

In other news, I am suppose to be able to publish pictures now. (Translated meaning - it is now supposedly simple enough for even me.) So, here is my first attempt. The subject of this picture is...

Minimilist City Engineers In Lake Jackson, Texas

Eureeka! It's alive!! I did it!

Oh, now I will have to learn how to crop pictures - can you see that?

Ok, well, I'm going to post another picture I took down in the southlands - at the risk of going postypicture crazy...

Here goes...

Yeah! Don't tell me about frugal Dutch people!

Ha!

Three Tanks Of Gas

Three tanks of gas: $64.56

Two disgusting fastfood meals: $7.13

Anti-bacterial hand sanitizer (for bathroom breaks): $2.75

Michigan to Texas in the same time it takes to fly it while riding in the comfort of my own car:

Priceless.

It took me 16 hours to drive from Michigan to Texas. Average flight time from Michigan to Texas, including layovers, arriving at the airport early, security checks, inevitable delays, driving from the big city airport to my Dad's little rural abode (two and a half hours), and actual flight time comes to no less than 14 hours.

Where's Howard Hughes when you need him?
