Bending to make my acquaintance,
And waving their lacey, green kerchiefs
They smile and welcome me.

I nod and touch my ball cap.

Hello sun! Bright sun, warm sun!
Warm, white sand and wet, salty air!
Greetings to you, regal bird!

You dip your wing and arc away...

I blink and trace the troughs.

And now I find myself in you,
Warm and salty, pulling, pushing,
Keeper of time's comings and goings...

You cover me and then rush on...

I wait and feel you move.

Ogeechee and formosa,
Talahi and magnolia,

Land of scars,
And place of grace,
I have met you...

Face to face.
